Canada's Silicon Valley is Wired for Window Cleaning
Often touted as ‘Canada’s Silicon Valley’, Kitchener-Waterloo stands out as the newest Canadian franchise location for Men In Kilts (MIK). “It has a historically strong industrial core, a vibrant, up-and-coming tech sector, and is home to two of Canada’s largest universities”, says Rich Stuart, Men In Kilts newest entrepreneur. Rich knows that due to its reputation as a tech hub, Kitchener-Waterloo is home to a prosperous and highly-educated population. Many older adults also choose to retire here because the city has every modern amenity one could ask for, while still retaining that small-town feel. This makes for an ideal location for an operation like Men In Kilts.
No problem, call Rich and his team.
Your back hurts and you can’t clean your gutters?
No big deal, call Rich and his team.
Shoveling got ya down?
We feel you, it happens to the best of us. Call Rich and his team.
But, who IS this guy?
Originally born in Winnipeg, MB, Rich was raised in Richmond, BC, which, incidentally, is also the hometown of Nicholas Brand, the founder of Men In Kilts.
Rich worked as an accountant for a large international firm for nearly ten years in bustling offices located in Vancouver,
New York, and San Francisco. But at one point, he realized he could not spend the rest of his working life sitting behind a desk crunching numbers.
He yearned to be the master of his own destiny. When his wife accepted a role
as a professor at the University of Waterloo in 2012, the move to the new city signaled the
beginning of a new chapter in the couple’s lives. Yes, they were newcomers, but their warm, engaging personalities allowed them to build strong social
networks and deeper connections to the community within just a few short years.
It comes as no surprise given Rich’s people-focused values which were inspired by the work ethic of his father who was also a successful accountant with an unwavering commitment to a set of core values. “Act with integrity, always do the right thing, and work hard,” says Rich who plans to bring these values to his business and to his relationships with his clients.
Rich has also been inspired by what other entrepreneurs have been able to accomplish through their successful ventures, and the benefits go far beyond financial rewards. “These people worked hard, but they worked on their terms. They put in the work up front to allow greater flexibility down the road,” he points out. “With my Men In Kilts franchise, I have the opportunity to build my own business and to create the lifestyle I desire.”
In 2017, that lifestyle became busier with the birth of twin boys Rory and Shea. As a healthy, active person, Rich relishes anything that gets him away from his desk, whether it be dirty diapers or dirty windows & gutters. That makes this new enterprise perfect for him. He’s always out and about, meeting new people, and learning about what makes this community tick.
He also believes in the Power of the Kilt - The factors that set MIK apart from other window cleaning or home maintenance service providers.
Rich believes MIK’s unique, cheeky shtick will add fun and frivolity to some otherwise mundane home maintenance services. “The brand and the kilts are awesome,” he says, “It is both fun and professional, which can be hard to achieve. It appeals to all types of people across different age groups, genders, and backgrounds.” The trademark kilts are definitely memorable and eye-catching, and the technicians are professionally trained, knowledgeable, and committed to delivering great services.
“My business strategy reflects the demands of my customer base. The goal will always be to do great work so that Men In Kilts continues to be synonymous with quality and great customer service.”
